Product Description

This hand carved wooden chest is covered with Masonic iconography. We certainly are not experts on the Freemasons but clearly this chest is covered with symbols that point to it being carved/owned by a Mason. On the cover we find many classic icons associated with the Freemasons such as: the fleur de lis, random triangles (throughout the chest), the large open heart with a "mosaic" or grid pattern, snakes (believed to represent the ever presence of temptation), and what appears to be the acacia flower (representing the hope of immortality that ties all religions together). Around the chest on all side you see either a bee or owl, more acacia blooms, a sword pointing towards the open heart, a double "X" or stylized compass with a leaf design in the center, two flags; all symbols used by Masons. On the lid, under the fleur de lis we find what we believe to be the owner's initials "WWM". We were told this was used to hold Masonic ritual items/clothing. We love this item for it's folk art appeal and think it would make a wonderful statement piece. This piece was found at auction in NW Michigan. Dimensions: 15.5" tall x 36" wide x 15" deep.
