Product Description

Burmese Kalaga Red Velvet Elephants. Kalaga is the traditional name for embroidered tapastries from Myanmar (Burma). This art form has been around for a century+ and typically depict the Buddha's journey to enlightenment or the epic journey of King Rama. Generally they are made from linen, silk, velvet or cotton with colorful sequins, glass beads and metalic thread. The amount of hand work and stitching is considerable and each piece is one-of-a-kind work of art. This large tapestry is on red velvet and adorned with colorful beads, thread, opalescent sequins and glass stones, Each elephant and person is "quilted" (stuffed) and protrude from the tapestry surface. The back is done in a semi-sheer black linen that also gives a 1" (approximately) boarder along the front of the textile. This could easily be framed and hung as a piece of art or used as a colorful accent on a sofa back, chair or bed. It has that boho chic look/appeal. We love it just as it is and would use it to accent a bed. We did not find any flaws/holes. Overall in beautiful shape and the colors are vibrant. Measures 33.5" tall x 52.5" wide.
