Product Description

Antique, French, crewelwork embroidery textile circa the late 1800s.  This textile features a floral motif on linen with an eyelet border.  Upon close inspection we can see the linen was originally three separate panels that were connected.  The overall condition is very good and is free from stains but the linen has darkened over time and there are some missing stitches.  However those condition issues do not detract from the overall appeal of this piece. It truly is a stunning textile that has countless hours of hand-stitching and care.  The wool crewel is still vibrant and the colors vary from orange, reds, browns, greens and blues.  Please take a moment to mouse over the product photographs so you can see the details up close.  Only upon close up inspection, can one begin to appreciate the time and effort put into this textile.  We know these type of textiles were called bed hangings and were often used on four-poster beds to be drawn at night to keep the draft away. They were also used as bedspreads and curtains.  This would make a striking wall hanging or as a display bedspread. Measures approximately 105" tall x 68.5" wide.  Please mouse over the product photographs to see the condition details up close.
